Being single

http://xkcd.com/420/

There seem to be so many negative things that come from being single, but recently the combination of this xkcd, and a certain person, have reminded me of the sheer bliss that can come from it.

There is nothing in life that will ever match up to getting to know someone, and knowing that it can go absolutely anywhere, that absolutely anything could come of it. Maybe nothing. Maybe friendship. Maybe more.

It's the sheer possibility that makes me love being young, free and single.

I'm with you on this 100%. I know some people who absolutely *need* a partner in their life to function and everything in their lives seems to revolve around it. I can't understand why and I'm not going to pretend to. Everyone is different after all :o)

Yeah, I know people like that too. Having said that, I would like to settle down. But I've been single for over 18 months now, and I haven't died of loneliness yet! In fact to the contrary, I have learned to function without constant reassurance of being loved.

I have always been single, more or less. And I find the idea of being in a relationship quite hard to deal with because I don't need that 'constant reassurance' and I'm not always sure I want it, either. Not constantly. And I'm scared of losing my independence. I'm told that's irrational. But yeah, the best thing about being single is the 'is this going anywhere' moment -- the point where you might actually *stop* being single...!

Meanwhile, on reading that xkcd, I really wanted to actually write to Mr Monroe and say something nice. Megan's been a theme throughout xkcd... :(
